Coming from the company that gave us Final Fantasy you’d expect their iDevice outings to be a lot grander. However Imaginary Range HD proves that you can make something as basic as a comic book a lot more interesting. There are mini-games and a super infectious sound track that fill up the panels of this graphic novel, which has a plot that takes the best out of the Matrix and Inception.

Donning the roles of Cid and Ciela it’s your job to protect a parallel world from a monster known as Omega. In terms of storytelling Imaginary Range HD is a tad disjointed although quite promising, hinting at shadowy pasts and mysterious characters, setting it up for a second game/comic if not an entire series of them.

The mini-games consist of simple puzzles that  require you to arrange portraits, defeat monster eyeballs Space Invaders style and seek out objects hidden in detailed backgrounds. It provides a welcome change of pace from the story and makes it all the more interesting.

At the magical price of free you can’t go wrong with Imaginary Range HD though we hope that the nice people at Square Enix decide to keep it that way or at least label a price that isn’t as exorbitant as they usually do. Definitely worth your time and bandwidth for your iDevice of choice.
