Mahindra Independence Rock Sells ₹30 Tickets to Mark 30th Edition
Unsurprisingly, 500 tickets at the early bird price were sold out within a few hours of announcement
Founded in 1986, the 30th birthday of Mahindra Independence Rock is being marked by not just a celebratory edition on Nov. 16 and 17, 2024, on home ground in Mumbai, but also with the cheapest festival tickets since, well, 1986.
The ‘Dirty 30’ campaign that’s marking the upcoming edition of the music festival – taking place at Bayview Lawns in Mazgaon – helped sell out the initial tranche of tickets (and the additional tier priced at ₹1,030, which included a ₹1,000 food and beverage coupon).
While the lineup is yet to be announced, the festival does have its work cut out among a slew of various multi-genre festivals like Echoes of Earth in Bengaluru, Cherry Blossom Festival in Shillong, Bandland (also in Bengaluru) and Lollapalooza India who have announced international and Indian artists.
A press release for Mahindra Independence Rock adds, “This year, brace yourself for the most riotous edition of all time, with the attendees warming up for some trippiest acts, serving a mix of genres and languages.”
I-Rock founder Farhad Wadia said in a statement about the upcoming edition of the festival, “We have levelled up and brought some interesting acts on board for the 30th edition, setting a new benchmark for experiential concerts. These 30 years have been nothing short of arduous efforts, sweat, and most importantly, love. To sum it up, I would like to quote a lyric from a Black Sabbath song, which goes, ‘Love is life and hating is living death.’”
Hyperlink Brand Solutions Pvt. Ltd.’s founder VG Jairam said in his statement about continuing to work with Wadia to run Mahindra Independence Rock, “All these years, since the inception of the festival, Farhad Wadia and I-Rock have contributed to creating a cultural wave that revolutionized rock in the country. It is a great pleasure to further promote the indigenous talent at Independence Rock that goes on to pave the way for others on the global stage. With this 30th Edition, Farhad and Hyperlink Solutions are all set to create a transcendental musical experience for the audience and a rite of passage for the performers and audience alike.”
Mahindra Group came on board in 2022 to support the revival of I-Rock after the festival spent nearly a decade out of action. The company’s vice president of cultural outreach Jay Shah says in his statement, “Mahindra Group has always strived to push the cultural envelope in the country and initiate an important dialogue around arts and culture. By joining forces with Farhad and Hyperlink Brand Solutions, we are instilling life again in a genre that has caused transformation across the globe, and Mahindra Group is more than happy to associate with the 30th edition milestone of I-Rock, working as a catalyst for reshaping the sonic experiences of Indians and scaling the volume of the festival as we enter a new decade of India’s loudest rock event.”
