The lineup for the upcoming 29th edition of the rock and metal festival in Mumbai also includes a returning performance by Parikrama, fusion acts like Agam and Swarathma, neo-soul/hip-hop act T.ill APES and alternative band Tough On Tobacco
Rock, metal, folk-fusion and more await at Mahindra Independence Rock, which returns to Bayview Lawns in Mazgaon, Mumbai on November 4th and 5th.
The lineup includes a comeback India show from Nepal metallers Underside, rock act Tough On Tobacco’s rare show (joined by Bombay Brass) and Shillong blues powerhouse Mama Tips and The Mama Bois, led by vocalist-guitarist Tipriti Kharbangar (from Soulmate).
Big draws also include metal favorites like Bhayanak Maut and Gutslit from Mumbai, seasoned fusion band Agam and folk-rock heroes Swarathma, Bengaluru-based Sikkim-origin act Girish And The Chronicles, plus neo-soul/hip-hop by T.ill APES. New Delhi rock veterans Parikrama too return for the second time in a row at I-Rock.
While the festival made a roaring comeback in 2022 after nearly a decade on a hiatus, nostalgia can only go so far without repeating itself. This lineup reflects a reliance on the bankable acts who rule a big stage best, a little bit of nostalgia, as well as just a smattering of new blood that’s emerged in recent years.
The dates for the two-day festival were announced as early as July, with the tickets now on sale, starting at ₹2,500.
Mahindra Independence Rock founder Farhad Wadia said in a statement, “I am excited to see this dream return for its 29th edition this November. When we started I-Rock, we did not have the faintest idea that it would endure and live on as a rock movement reverberating through the years. And I am even happier to see it evolve in the right direction and include diverse rock genres into its soundscape this year, all while keeping its previous traditions of talent discovery alive.”
The festival’s co-promoter and co-producers are Hyperlink Brand Solutions, whose founder V.G. Jairam says in a statement, “Mahindra I-Rock was and still is the holy grail of true rock-and-roll experience. Moreover, with such a varied line-up of bands from across the country, I am certain that this year’s edition will connect diverse audiences with stories and cultures that resonate with them, making for a grand celebration of the genre as a whole.”
