Indian Ocean Welcome the Majestic Tiger in New Song for Nature Documentary
The music that leads ‘Project Tiger’ is a jazz-fusion jam from the New Delhi legends called “Baagh Aayore”
One of India’s most visible and long-running conservation projects gets a spirited sonic dimension from fusion stalwarts Indian Ocean, whose song “Baagh Aayore” accompanies the documentary Project Tiger.
Indian Ocean sing about the revival and preservation of forests and rivers which are essential for human lives that co-exist with wildlife. The production house Nature inFocus, who created and screened the documentary feature Project Tiger in Bengaluru last week and called on Indian Ocean to perform the song, focus on the journey of the campaign that’s Project Tiger, which aimed to save the species from extinction.
The band – who released their eco-conscious album Tu Hai earlier this year – add to their message with “Baagh Aayore,” a jazz-fusion jam with lyrics by bassist-vocalist Rahul Ram. Drummer Amit Kilam says about the song in a statement, “This is a song that transcends boundaries, much like the spirit of the tigers it honors. The lyrics and music are a fusion of sounds from different regions of India, reflecting the diversity and unity of our nation.”
Ram adds that the lyrics were inspired by the documentary film’s script and “mirrors its core ethos.” He adds, “Why is the tiger core for humanity’s conservation efforts? The logical flow of the story turned into the lyrics of the song. The tune came into my head with the words ‘Baagh Aayore’ even before I started on the lines. Once I started putting the lyrical sequence together, after a couple of reiterations, we were able to arrive at a simple and effective composition that celebrates the tiger and does justice to the story.”
The music video for “Baagh Aayore” puts the spolight on the band jamming on the song, alongside footage of nature and tigers itself. The project is directed and creative produced by Project Tiger makers Rohit Varma from Nature inFocus and Kalyan Varma, with the music video bringing in producer Shatabdi Chakrabarti and DOP Karan Thapliyal.
