Indie Artists Are Finding a Space on OTT Platforms

From Kamakshi Khanna’s ‘Duur’ to Mali making her Bollywood debut and more

Over the last few months, there have been several Indian independent artists being tapped for their music to feature in films on OTT platforms. The recently trending “Doobey” by Mumbai/Ahmedabad producer Kabeer Kathpalia aka OAFF, composer-producer Savera Mehta, singer-songwriter Lothika Jha and lyricist Kausar Munir is one such example of indie artists thrusting into the forefront through OTT opportunities via the film Gehraiyaan. Here are a few other artists who are also grasping on this break.  

Kamakshi Khanna, OAFF – “Duur”

OAFF finds himself in another OTT project, this time alongside New Delhi singer-songwriter Kamakshi Khanna in the Madhuri Dixit starrer The Fame Game.

Easy Wanderlings – “Enemy”

Pune soul/easy listening group Easy Wanderlings found their 2021 soft rock offering “Enemy” appear in Gehraiyaan.

Mali – “Maange Manzooriyan”

Chennai-bred singer-songwriter Maalavika Manoj aka Mali marked her Bollywood debut earlier this year by singing in the drama film Badhaai Do.

Sameer Rahat, Hybrid Protokol – Homecoming (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

Released last month, Homecoming includes music from the likes of Mumbai-based singer-songwriter Sameer Rahat as well as Kolkata electronic duo Hybrid Protokol.

Indian Ocean, The Yellow Diary – Jugaadistan (OST)

One of the country’s fusion/rock stalwarts Indian Ocean and Mumbai alt-rockers The Yellow Diary find themselves among other artists on the soundtrack for the series Jugaadistan.
