Indiegaga International Music & Arts Festival Kicks Off in Kochi This Week

Even though it’s already March and the music festival’s off-season beckons, it’s never too late to make room for one more. Kerala’s newest music gathering is the day-long Indiegaga festival, which takes place at Bolgatty Island in Kochi on March 9th.

The lineup features the likes of New Delhi rockers The Local Train, Kerala’s veteran rockers Motherjane, Chennai indie rockers The F16s, British electro-rock band Dronningen’s India debut, Kannur-bred folk/groove metallers The Down Troddence, Bengaluru rock band All The Fat Children and homegrown newbies Cut-A-Vibe. The festival also covers the art end of the spectrum, featuring painters, sand artists and more.

Indiegaga is put together by Kerala’s latest events, artist and media company Wonderwall Media, whose CEO Sumesh Lal was previously part of curating music shows such as Kappa TV’s Music Mojo for production house Aum-i Artistes. A press statement adds about the festival, “We intend to have five editions of Indiegaga every year at five major cities in India and U.A.E. with an eye to include more and more international artists from Asia Pacific, Europe and from unlikely corners of the globe.”

For Dronningen’s frontwoman Beatrice Bonnano, Indiegaga marks their first show in Asia, after having performed at European festivals such as Live At Heart in Sweden. The trio will also be part of a recording on Kappa TV. Bonnano says, “This really means a lot for us! It’s our very first show outside of Europe, and yes it’s our very first gig in Asia so…we still can’t believe this is happening. Someone will probably have to pinch us as we land at the airport.” Arriving in India (for just a 24-hour trip) on the back of releasing their third EP Sugarbox in 2017, Dronningen will bring a noisy, rock ”˜n roll-influenced electronic sound. Bonnano says about their performances, “[It’s] like a car crash with your stereo full on. We don’t spend time looking at our shoes and pretend no one is front of us. We are not that kind of band. Get ready for sweat, dancing, and big guitar sounds.”
