With Indigo and Blues Festival entering its fourth year of operation, festival founder Satya Narayana Murthy is optimistic about the future of jazz and blues in the country. Says Murthy, who is also the CEO of event organizers and radio channel Indigo 91.9 FM, “There’s been a considerable increase in the traction that the music has been gaining over the past four to five years in Bangalore””and in India in general””thanks to large-format blues and jazz festivals. In addition, you also have a lot of different international acts performing in different parts of the country.”

This year, the Bengaluru blues and jazz fest ”” which has been one of the major contributors to the growth of jazz and blues in the since its inception in 2009 ”” takes place on August 28th at Royal Orchid Resort, Bengaluru. And while Bangkok-based musician Passakorn Morasilpin and his jazz quintet will be headlining the day-long fest, they aren’t the only international artists on the bill. Indigo and Blues will also witness a performance by transcontinental act Jazz Junction, comprising of Russian singer Olga Andreeva, Italian guitarist Matteo Mancuso, Bengaluru-based guitarist Gerard Machado, and Goan musicians Jason Quadros and Colin D`Cruz.

Other acts on the lineup include Bengaluru-based jazz groups UNK: The Radha Thomas Ensemble and MoonArra, and blues trio By2Blues. Says Murthy, “We have a fantastic mix of artists this year from Thailand, Russia and more. The experience is what we stand for, and what we promise is an amazing experience.”
