Channeling saccharine upbeat pop, Auckland-based singer-songwriter theajsound aka Arjun Bhat teams up with MC Culprit aka Seamus Copland Malone on “HEARTLESS.”

A new release in March that’s part of theajsound’s upcoming EP The Weekdays, there’s a sentimentality heard on “HEARTLESS.” that marks familiar yet refreshing territory for the artist who’s been releasing music since 2020. Self-described as a “hopeless romantic in the past,” theajsound and MC Culprit sing about being givers in relationships where there’s clearly someone in it just for the taking.

Bhat says in a statement, “I drew from my experiences and my friends’, from when we’d been in relationships with someone selfish or self-centered. It’s hard when you’re in love with someone who cares a lot less about you, than you do about them. It may not sound like it, but ‘HEARTLESS.’ is a reminder that you deserve more.”

MC Culprit reached out to Indian-origin theajsound for a collaboration via Instagram and was keen to mix up their pop and hip-hop worlds. “My verse is about a girl I always looked for but have never found, a perfect girl who I’d ball out with and could trust and start a family with,” the rapper says.

From the seven-track EP The Weekdays, theajsound has so far released songs such as “BEMYLOVER” in January, which aptly channels the Eighties synth-pop sound, plus a loud and clear love for artists such as The Weeknd.
