The Bengaluru death/thrash metal band will be performing tracks from their upcoming album 'Legions Awake' at the RSMA finale in Mumbai
At the very first edition of the Rolling Stone Metal awards in 2010, Bengaluru-based death/thrash metal band Inner Sanctum was nominated in the category of Best Band. While the band didn’t take home the trophy that year, they went onto add a few more achievements to their career graph: they opened for English extreme metal band Cradle of Filth in 2011, followed by opening sets for American thrash metal bands like Metallica in 2011 and Slayer in 2012.
In 2009, the band released their debut EP titled Provenance and are planning to release their debut album this year. The eight-track album, titled Legions Awake, which has been recorded with German producer Lasse Lammert, features songs that Inner Sanctum has been playing for the last five years. The oldest among these is “Tainted Soils” and the other heavy hitters include “March of the Wounded,” which is a nod to French metal band Gojira, the blistering “Realms of Oblivion” and groove-heavy death metal tracks such as “Guardian,” “Reflections of the Past,” and “Legions Awake.” Says the band’s vocalist Gaurav Basu, “There have been a few delays with the album but we don’t want to rush anything. We want to do it right.” In January, the band released their first single, “Wake of Destruction,” from their debut. It’s only been two months since the release and the YouTube video of the track has logged more than 10,000 views.
At the RSMA finale in Mumbai, Inner Sanctum will be playing along with Delhi-based progressive metal outfit Colossal Figures and Mumbai-based instrumental metal group The Minerva Conduct. The show also marks the band’s first indoor performance in Mumbai. Adds Basu, “We have never performed at Blue Frog before and feel that it’s going to be quite fun. The energy inside a closed venue is completely different. It is more intimate, you can see the crowd clearly and there is a lot more adrenalin.”
Inner Sanctum perform at Casio presents Rolling Stone Metal Awards on March 22nd, 2015 at Blue Frog, Mumbai. Stay tuned for the full lineup and more event details.
