In the last few years, the Ramrao Adik Institute of Technology [RAIT] have been bringing the heaviest metal bands to Mumbai for Unchained, the metal show organized as part of their annual cultural festival Horizon. The show, headlined by Bengaluru death/thrash metal band Inner Sanctum this year, takes place on February 17th, on the same day as the FLY Music Festival, but that hasn’t deterred both organizers and bands from playing at Unchained.

This year’s lineup also includes sets by Delhi progressive/thrash metal band Artillerie and Mumbai bands such as groove metal band Providence, thrash metallers Sceptre and groove/death metal band Orcus, making the tally add up to five bands for the 2013 edition, one more than usual. Akshay Bhatnagar, one of the organizers says, “People can expect a mad evening because these are few of the best bands in India. Besides the headliner, the number of bands have increased from three to five bands in the last two years.”

Inner Sanctum, which last performed at SIES Powerchords [another college show] in Mumbai in 2010, will perform in the city after two years. Abhishek Michael, bassist of Inner Sanctum adds that the band will be playing newer material which they haven’t played outside Bengaluru before. “All I can say is that there is going to be chaos and hopefully there is a stage after we’re done trashing it,” adds Michael.

Mumbai thrash metal veterans Sceptre, who will release their upcoming album Age Of Calamity around the same time as their show at Unchained, make a return to the festival circuit this year. “We played there last in 2000, when we had signed up for the competition and even won. The only band I remember we played with was Metakix,” says drummer Aniket Waghmode, who adds that the band will play all the songs off Age Of Calamity and “a few old songs.”

Inner Sanctum, Sceptre, Artillerie, Providence and Orcus play at RAIT Unchained 2013 on February 17th, 2013, 4pm onwards at DYPSA Convocation Grounds. Entry Rs 200. More details here.
