A month before EDM takes over Goa with not one, but two year-end festivals, the International Jazz Live Festival [IJLF] launches its first edition on November 30th. Organizers of the festival, including eco-hotel Art Escape, Mumbai-based booking and artist management agency Gatecrash and Delhi jazz gig organizers Capital Jazz, will host several gigs throughout November as a build up to the main event.

Festival director Vinesh Iyer, who is also the co-founder of Art Escape and The Live Music Project, which hosts new music at venues across Goa every Saturday night, says that IJLF will be a yearly event featuring international and Indian jazz acts. Says Iyer, “The plan for a festival like this has been around for the last four years. Things got moving once we met Astri Ghosh from Capital Jazz three months ago and finally got our own space [at Baywatch Resort].” The two-day festival includes Swiss-born French trumpeter Erik Truffaz, Dutch jazz saxophonist Yuri Honing, Delhi jazz trio HFT and Swiss post-jazz band Plaistow, among others. The festival closes with a felicitation of jazz musicians from the country, including HFT’s guitarist Arjun Sen and bassist Lew Hilt,  veteran saxophonist/clarinetist Braz Gonsalves [who has played with the likes of Louiz Banks] and guitarist Derek Julien.

In a run-up to the festival, five free gigs take place at Live Lounge at Baywatch resort, kicking off with a tribute to Goan saxophonist Jazzy Joe Pereira [featuring Japanese guitarist Hideaki Tokunaga], Mumbai’s True School Band, the resident band of the True School of Music, Bengaluru fusion/jazz band Moon Arra and Delhi’s Aditya Balani Quartet, who will launch their debut album, Answers.
