It was a big night for Indian alternative music. The 9th Jack Daniel’s Annual Rock Awards witnessed some fantastic performances by bands and the list of winners proved it’s been a great year for upcoming artists and debut albums.

Delhi jazz fusion band Adil & Vasundhara took home awards for Best Female Vocalist and Best Bassist for their debut album Ampersand],  Mumbai electro rock band Sky Rabbit took home two of the night’s big awards ”“ Best Band and Best Album ”“ while Kolkata pop artist Nischay Parekh won Best Song for “Ocean” from his debut album by the same name. Four-time nominee and two-time winner Baiju Dharmajan won his third Best Guitarist JD Rock Award, for his work on Sanjeev Thomas’s second solo album, Epic Shit.

Mumbai alt rock band [and the night’s top nominees] Tough On Tobacco’s standout closing set will be remembered for the impromptu jam on stage that included vocalist Ankur Tewari, Shillong blues band Soulmate’s vocalist Tipriti Kharbangar, vocalist Siddharth Basrur and the show’s co-host and electro pop band bassist Rohit Pereira.

Kharbangar, who presented Best Album award with Sufi rock singer Rabbi Shergill and singer Suneeta Rao, met Tewari a few minutes ahead of Tough On Tobacco’s set and the Ghalat Family frontman suggested they jam on “Mohabbat Zindabaad.” Kharbangar who promptly agreed joined the Mumbai-based artists for a final jam on ToT’s best-known song “Smoke Some Ganja,”  hitting one of the biggest highs that evening.
