Rocker delivers "Love Is the Truth" and "You've Got Her in Your Pocket," trash-talks Jimmy Fallon's guitar
Jack White visited The Tonight Show Friday, the same day the rocker released his Acoustic Recordings 1998 – 2016, to perform an acoustic medley of a pair of tracks, “Love Is the Truth” and White Stripes’ “You’ve Got Her in Your Pocket.”
“Love Is the Truth” is among the tracks unearthed for White’s collection: The song was specifically penned for a 2006 Coca-Cola commercial that only aired once. The track’s “Acoustic Mix” appears on White’s new LP.
Elephant‘s “You’ve Got Her in Your Pocket,” one of the rare White Stripes tracks that didn’t feature Meg White, also features on Acoustic Recordings, which chronologically collects album tracks, b-sides, alternate mixes, remixes and unreleased recordings.
In addition to the six-minute medley, White also sat down with host Jimmy Fallon to discuss his new collection. When asked whether, from 1998 to 2016, the quality (and price) of his guitars have increased, White pointed out that the guitar on Acoustic Recordings‘ cover ”“ and the instrument he used in the medley ”“ is an Army Navy Gibson guitar built for use during wartime, but not manufactured until after the war had already ended.
Fallon then tells White that, when doing Tonight Show sketches, he plays a Fender Newport guitar. White replies by calling Fallon’s instrument of choice “a beginners guitar for children.”
