The teaser for Jackson Wang and Diljit Dosanjh’s single “Buck” took the internet by storm soon after its release, fuelled largely by the excitement of both artists’ massive fan base. Reflecting on the collaboration, the pop star and Got7 member recalls his experience working with the popular Indian artist, saying, “Being able to collaborate with Diljit was very memorable for me.”
A sultry dance-pop track, “Buck” is a perfect example of cultural fusion. The third single from Jackson Wang’s highly anticipated upcoming album, Magicman 2, dropped on May 9, treating fans with a high-voltage clash of cultures as Jackson’s English verses meet Diljit’s bilingual English-Punjabi flow in a music video packed with cinematic flair.
The collaboration is a personal milestone moment for Jackson. “He is not just an icon but also a great human being, a big brother with a big heart,” he tells Rolling Stone India.
Jackson’s upcoming India visit to promote “Buck” is expected to be a longer stay, following his memorable trip for Lollapalooza India in 2023. During his previous trip, he was seen sharing a ride in a horse-drawn carriage with Bollywood stars like Disha Patani, sampling local food, and interacting with Hrithik Roshan’s family. Originally from China, Jackson hopes to share his cultural heritage with the Indian community during his visit this time around. “Being able to learn and absorb the Indian culture is very meaningful for me,” he explains.
His love for India was clear in a previous conversation with Rolling Stone India, where he shared his long-held desire to visit the country, with a special fondness for Bollywood. “If I can just visit Bollywood sets, or even like see how they film and just, you know, experience the vibe of it…it’s on my bucket list.” Now, he’s also eager to truly immerse himself in Indian culture. “I hope I will someday be in India long enough to live as a local. Understanding every aspect of India,” revealing his deepening connection with the country.
Rounding off his thoughts, Jackson says that he hopes to introduce and share the richness of India with his own country, leveraging his music as a universal language to unite diverse audiences. His collaboration with Diljit Dosanjh is a manifestation of that. And as he reflects on music’s impact, Jackson says, “Music has always been a bridge that brings everyone together with no boundaries. And as an artist, I’m very lucky to be able to do that.”
