Janet Jackson Promises ‘No Sleeep’ on Alluring New Single

Keyboard-heavy jam is first taste of singer’s as-yet-untitled new LP, due out this fall

Jun 23, 2015

It’s been seven years since Janet Jackson’s last album, Discipline ”“ but the R&B icon isn’t rushing the unhurried vibe with her new single, “No Sleeep.” The laid-back track, produced by longtime collaborators Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, finds Jackson crooning about a long-distance romance over soulful keyboards and programmed drums. “You missing me, me missing you,” she almost whispers. “Whenever we meet, we ain’t gonna get no sleep.”

Jackson tweeted a link to the above video on Monday, adding, “I dedicate this to My Love.” She also included the hashtag “ConversationsInACafe,” again fueling speculation about the name of her new LP.

“No Sleeep” is the first taste of Jackon’s as-yet-untitled new album, due out this fall via BMG as part of an “artist services deal.” The release is her first venture with newly formed Rhythm Nation label, which will “offer a home to both new and established recording artists,” according to the singer’s website. Jackson parted ways with Island Records following the release of 2008’s Discipline.

Last week, Jackson announced her “Unbreakable” World Tour, a 36-show trek that kicks off August 31st in Vancouver and currently runs through early November. She also started official pre-orders for her new LP, which included vinyl copies of “No Sleep” and special access to pre-sale tour tickets.

The singer announced her comeback last month in a video, saying, “I promised you’d hear it from my lips,” over an unnamed beat and image of a recording studio. “This year, new music, new world, a new movement. I’ve been listening. Let’s keep the conversation going.”
