Japanese Veterans MONO to Make India Debut at Ziro Festival of Music

The seventh edition of the Arunachal Pradesh festival also includes Israeli folk-jazz rock band Malox, rapper Prabh Deep and more

The North East’s (now) longest-running multi-genre event, Ziro Festival of Music (ZFM) has announced its lineup for the seventh edition held between September 27th and 30th in Arunachal Pradesh.

Japanese post-rock veterans MONO, known for their evocative and cinematic style of music, will make an exclusive India appearance headlining Ziro Festival of Music, their first ever show in the country. The Tokyo-based instrumental act, who have been active since 1999, released their latest ”“ Requiem for Hell ”“ in 2016 and have been working with the likes of ace producer Steve Albini.

Joining Mono on the lineup are international and Indian artists such as Israeli avant-garde band Malox, Malian artist Madou Sidiki, ghatam artist Sukanya Ramgopal, rapper Prabh Deep, socially-conscious Kerala band Oorali, homegrown rapper K4 Kekho, Mizroram indie rockers Avora Records, Assam duo Wine O’Clock, New Delhi-based alt rock artist Takar Nabam Trio, Meghalaya rap troupe Cryptographik Street Poets and more.

In addition to the music, ZFM has also started a month-long sustainable design residency/workshop where two candidates will join the festival’s bamboo architect Kollol Brahmadutta. Supported by the Government of Arunachal Pradesh and its tourism ministry, Ziro has also tied up with American record label Chicken Ranch Records, which will release a compilation of select live recordings from the festival across stores in the U.S.

Tickets for ZFM are now at Rs 6,000 for the four-day event, with additional charges for camping and food.
