JAY B Drops Passionate New Track ‘Switch It Up’

The single marks the South Korean vocalist’s first solo project since joining hip-hop and R&B label H1GHR MUSIC

May 14, 2021

Just days after revealing his partnership with international hip-hop and R&B label H1GHR MUSIC, South Korean singer JAY B has dropped his first single with the company, “Switch It Up.”

Accompanied by a live performance clip, the sultry R&B track also features South Korean rapper Sokodomo matching JAY B’s low and breathy vocals with his fiery rap. The song offers listeners a deeper connection to JAY B’s personalized style of music which was last experienced in his series of mixtapes released under the name Def. with his crew, ØFFSHORE.

Composed and written by JAY B and H1GHR MUSIC’s co-founders, Jay Park and Cha Cha Malone, “Switch It Up” is a slow R&B number inspired by intimate moments of love and passion. JAY B keeps it simple as he explores these emotions in a dense forest, accompanied by flashy neon lights and minimal choreography.

With the focus on the singer’s charismatic personality and his honey-dipped vocals, the music video follows JAY B around the serene setting as he sings, “Baby, I wanna switch it up/ All I see is you right now/ Just like a wave/ Baby, ride my body/ Girl, nice and calm.” He further dials up the heat as he continues, “Unbutton your shirt/ Pour up, pour myself up all over you/ Put your arm around my neck/ Want you to hold me tight, yeah.”

Through a series of Instagram live sessions, JAY B revealed that though Park was the first to approach him, he did not immediately ink the deal with H1GHR MUSIC. Instead, the duo blended their artistry as they commenced working on “Switch It Up,” and it was that synergy which eventually convinced the vocalist to join the label.
