Premiere: Jay Putty’s ‘Adventure Awaits’ Gets Interpreted in Six Languages
Nashville-based indie-pop artist invites artists to sing in Tagalog, Spanish, Greek, French, Italian and Swahili on his free-spirited song
American indie pop artist Jay Putty has always been inspired by how music is “this great communicator” and part of that led him to release his new song “Adventure Awaits” in six more languages after its original English version was out in June.
Now, with “Adventure Awaits” is sung in Spanish by artist Bonf1r3, Greek by San Diego-origin singer-songwriter Emily Laliotis, Tagalog by artist Ariadne Mila, Swahili by pop artist Eyeliner Monarch, French by Canadian pop-jazz artist Tara Lett and Italian by Montreal-origin singer December Rose.
Funnily enough, the idea for a multilingual project came to Putty when he was at Animal Kingdom at Disney World and thinking about calling in the artists he knew from around the world. “So I reached out to friends I have like Iris, Ariadne, Ashton, Rosemary, Tara, and Emily and essentially being like ‘wanna do this?’ and they all were down,” he says.
Putty’s original English elements remain intact, but the addition of new voices gives each version of “Adventure Awaits” a more colorful outlook. Putty also believes that as more languages mingle and find acceptance in mainstream music around the world, the interconnectedness between people also increases. “Music is the universal language. It’s amazing that social media and the internet really has kind of allowed this to happen,” the artist adds.
The language spectrum for “Adventure Awaits” is about as wide as they come – spanning continents and regions including Europe, Africa and Asia. Putty says he’ll continue to be keen to work with more artists and put in more languages over his music. “I would love to do something in Japanese, Indian [languages], or even Korean as well,” he says. He points to working as a songwriter for K-pop songs with artists like U-Know, BoA and the group Oh My Girl. He says these experiences, including “Adventure Awaits” have been “a great way of expanding your appreciation of people and cultures.” Putty adds, “If you or anyone reading has any artists from around the world they could recommend I would love to connect with them.”
Hailing from Indiana and currently based in the American music hub of Nashville, Putty found his musical calling after picking up a guitar to cope with sports injuries. Since then, he’s scored hits like “The Best Days Are Yet To Come” and “On My Way,” both off his 2024 EP Rosewood.
