Organizers of the Mahindra Blues Fest announced that blues guitarist and co-headlining act Jimmie Vaughan has dropped out of the 2013 lineup citing health and medical reasons. The organisers posted on their Facebook page: “Vaughan had a heart attack on the 23rd but thankfully, he’s recovering now.”

An official statement on the festival website confirmed, “Jimmie Vaughan was admitted to Pomona Hospital Medical Center on January 23rd, 2013 with an acute myocardial infraction (heart attack). He had a coronary angioplasty and stent placement. He is still in the hospital but recovering and has been advised by his cardiologist to rest at home for a month. He regretfully had to cancel a scheduled trip to the Mahindra Blues Festival in Mumbai as a result. We wish him a speedy recovery.”

Vaughan, brother of the late guitar great Stevie Ray Vaughan, was set to perform at the Mahindra Blues Fest, held on February 16th and 17th, along with the Tilt A Whirl Band and American blues singer Lou Ann Barton. Replacing him are Jimmy Thackery and The Drivers, an American blues band led by blues singer-guitarist Jimmy Thackery.

The rest of the lineup remains unchanged, including blues guitarists such as Robert Randolph and the Family Band, Walter Trout and the Radicals, electric blues artist Ted Horowitz aka Popa Chubby, voice-over artist Dana Fuchs and Indian blues acts Soulmate and Big Bang Blues.

The Mahindra Blues Festival takes place on February 16th and 17th, 2013 at Mehboob Studios, Mumbai. Entry Rs 3,500 (for two days) and Rs 2,000 for each day. Student daily passes available at Rs 800 per day. Tickets available here. Event details here.
