JioMusic and Saavn Join Hands: Here’s Everything You Need to Know

JioSaavn is now South Asia's biggest streaming platform and features a catalog with over 45 million songs and original content

Music and entertainment platforms JioMusic and Saavn have joined hands to launch JioSaavn, a brand new streaming platform and now South Asia’s biggest with a catalog over 45 million songs and other original content. The app will be available across all App Stores including the Jio app store, on JioPhone, as well as at www.jio.com/jiosaavn.

Saavn and Reliance Industries Limited (JioMusic’s parent company) had announced their merger earlier this year in March and JioSaavn is a direct and key product of this partnership.

Current JioMusic and Saavn users will automatically migrate to the newly integrated app and some of the new in-app products and music experiences they will see include an interactive lyrics feature, localized vernacular display, integrations with concerts and live events, as well as exclusive video content which will roll out regularly over the next few months. If you’ve already got either Saavn or JioMusic, look for an update on your app store to transition to JioSaavn.

The interface takes on more of JioMusic’s vibe with light backgrounds and bigger album artwork displays. There’s also slight echoes of Apple Music’s minimalistic, clean and bright interface.

JioSaavn will be offered on a freemium model in India with all users having access to an ad-supported version, while Jio subscribers would enjoy seamless access and get a 90-day extended free trial of JioSaavn Pro, the streaming service’s advertisement-free, premium version. Reliance Jio users’ access to the app will significantly expand Saavn’s audience, pushing music and other content to almost every corner of the country to around 252 million subscribers.

“The launch of JioSaavn marks a new era for music streaming in India and, the global music industry at large,” says Paramdeep Singh, Co-Founder and Executive Vice Chairman at JioSaavn. “Combining the scale and quality of the Jio network with our highly engaged product experience, JioSaavn is positioned for a steep growth trajectory that will benefit the entire ecosystem of label partners, brand advertisers, and independent artists to bring content, commerce and culture together.”

Saavn’s co-founders Singh, Rishi Malhotra and Vinodh Bhat will continue in their leadership roles and JioSaavn’s team of more than 200 employees will operate out of its five global offices at Mountain View and New York in the U.S. and Bengaluru, Gurugram, and Mumbai in India.

JioSaavn will also continue to build on Saavn’s Original Programming and Artist Originals (AO). While Artist Originals is responsible for launching and promoting the careers of several talented Indian artists and producers, Saavn’s Original Programming produces and exclusively distributes some of India’s most popular audio podcasts.
