Director Todd Phillips celebrated Valentine’s Day by sharing three new images from his forthcoming sequel Joker: Folie à Deux. The stills, shared on Instagram and geo-tagged as Gotham City, reveal stars Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga as the Joker and Harley Quinn in romantic situations.
“Hoping your day is full of love,” Phillips wrote, adding the film’s release date of Oct. 4, 2024. Two of the photos feature Phoenix in his classic Joker makeup, while one shows the comic book couple nose to nose.
Phillips has made a habit of gifting fans new photos from the movie on major holidays. In December, he shared two images, writing “Wishing everyone a happy holiday and a beautiful new year.” Last April, Lady Gaga shared an official photo of her as Harley Quinn on social media. “That’s a wrap,” Gaga wrote on Instagram, signing the post “X, Harleen.”
Joker: Folie à Deux is set to arrive Oct. 4, 2024 — exactly five years after the first film’s release. Rolling Stone‘s David Fear named it one of the most anticipated films of the year, noting that Lady Gaga’s casting is the most exciting aspect of the sequel. “What has us jazzed is Lady Gaga (!) joining these gents to play the Joker’s girlfriend, fellow sociopath and literal partner in crime, Harley Quinn (!!!),” Fear wrote. “Rejoice, Batfans and Little Monsters. You now have at least on thing in common.”
