It’s not every day that a debut track takes the charts by storm, but Josh Brar’s “Tere Bina Na Guzara E” has done just that. This heartfelt anthem about love has climbed ranks across the globe, including the UK Asian Music Charts, and even earned a spot on Spotify Canada’s marquee outdoor promotions.

The song’s universal appeal has also sparked a creative wave on Instagram, with millions of fans making reels to its melody.

Behind the runaway success is Josh Brar, a rising artist with a fascinating and unexpected journey into music. In this interview, Brar opens up about the inspiration behind his breakout hit, the fan moments that stand out, and what lies ahead for him.

Your debut track, “Tere Bina Na Guzara E” is a massive hit across multiple countries. What inspired the song?

The song is deeply personal and universal at the same time. It’s about love and the emotions that connect us to someone special. I think that’s why so many people resonate with it—it captures something we’ve all felt.

With over two million Instagram reels created to your song, how does it feel to have people connecting to “Tere Bina Na Guzara E” in such a big way? What’s the craziest reel you’ve seen using your song?

It’s surreal and heartwarming to see so much love for the song. Every message, every reel feels like a blessing. It motivates me to keep creating music that touches people’s hearts. The craziest reel I saw was of three guys—one pretending to be me, another as Kinza, my co-star from the music video, and the third as the dog from the video. It was hilarious and so creative!

You’re topping charts in countries as diverse as India, Pakistan, Canada, and more. How do you think your sound connects with audiences from different cultural backgrounds?

I think the song’s energy—its calmness, purity, and positivity—transcends language and culture. Music is a universal language, and I’m so grateful that people from so many backgrounds feel connected to it.

How did your music journey start? Was there a specific moment or artist that made you want to pursue this path?

My music journey started in high school, and it’s actually a funny story. During the morning assembly, the school choir stood under the shade of a tree while everyone else stood in the sun. I decided to learn the tabla just to be part of the choir and stay in the shade—but soon, I fell in love with music.

Over time, I learned the guitar, piano, and other instruments. The turning point was my first live performance, where I sang Gurdas Maan Saab and Diljit Dosanjh’s “Ki Banu Duniya Da.” The crowd’s energy, their cheers and claps—it was magical and made me realize that this is what I’m meant to do.

What’s next for you? Are you working on new music, and can fans expect a similar vibe, or are you exploring different sounds?

I’ve already created a few new songs, and I’m working on more. While I’ll continue to make music in a similar vibe, I’m also excited to explore different genres. I want my listeners to experience a variety of sounds through my music.

How are you handling all the new attention? Have you had any memorable interactions with fans so far?

The love I’ve been receiving is so overwhelming and pure—it pushes me to keep creating more music. It’s all been very grounding and peaceful.

One of my very unique fan interactions was with this very sweet girl, and I still don’t know if it was a compliment or what—it was really funny. She told me, “Your face doesn’t go with your voice—they don’t match!” And then later on, she went on to tell me how much she loved the song.

Finally, what do you hope listeners feel or take away when they listen to “Tere Bina Na Guzara E?
I hope the listeners feel love, peace, and a sense of connection. That’s what the song means to me, and I want it to bring the same emotions to everyone who listens to it.
