#JustAnnounced: Nexa Music’s Top 24 Winners
The artists will have their music re-produced by Clinton Cerejo and the four winners will work on new music under the mentorship of A.R. Rahman

This news will be music to the ears of not just the chosen few artists but also lovers of indie music in India. In a bid to promote indigenous talent, Maruti Suzuki’s Nexa Experiences launched Nexa Music, a nationwide hunt for emerging artists, earlier this year. The platform, created in collaboration with digital media company Qyuki, aimed to put the spotlight on the creators of English-language original music across the country.
In a matter of just a few weeks, Nexa Music received over 1000 entries from across the length and breadth of the country. These included solo artists, duos, trios and bands — both fledgling and popular — across genres.
Nexa Music has just revealed the Top 24 who will get a chance to be mentored by the likes of composers A.R. Rahman and Clinton Cerejo as well as share the stage with musicians Anushka Manchanda, Uday Benegal and Nikhil D’Souza.
Bringing their talent to the competition are scene regulars like singer-songwriters Tejas, Raghav Meattle, Aarifah and Vernon Noronha. Also, young bands including neo-soul outfit Beer Puppets and alt-rock groups The Backyard Shrooms and Calico are part of the list. Exciting duos comprising pop pair Simetri and groovy twosome StringyCheese & CrackerJack also make part of the Top 24.
Also in store are 12 gigs which are set to take place around the country as part of the live edition of the competition, Nexa Live, where the artists get to share the stage with Cerejo and his band, Shor Police.
All content created including the four winners tracks will be released under the Nexa Music property and distributed internationally.
Going by its multi-pronged strategy that focuses on building a support system for musicians in India, Nexa Music is not only creating incentives for creators to create but also offering audiences indie music’s next breed of role models.
