Justin Timberlake Released After Driving-While-Intoxicated Arrest in the Hamptons

Musician was arraigned Tuesday morning and is due for a follow-up hearing next month

Justin Timberlake was arrested on suspicion of driving in an “intoxicated condition” early Tuesday after he allegedly failed to stop at a posted stop sign in the Southampton village of Sag Harbor, N.Y., a court filing obtained by Rolling Stone states. He was arraigned on a single misdemeanor charge of DWI hours later and released on his own recognizance, officials said.

The musician was pulled over at approximately 12:37 a.m. while operating a 2025 BMW sport utility vehicle, according to the court filing. He allegedly blew through the stop sign at the intersection of Madison Street and Jermain Avenue in Sag Harbor and then failed to “keep to the right side of the road” for multiple blocks, the filing claims.

“His eyes were bloodshot and glassy, a strong odor of alcoholic beverage was emanating from his breath, he was unable to divide attention, he had slowed speech, he was unsteady afoot, and he performed poorly on all standardized field sobriety tests,” the one-page filing by prosecutors based on the sworn statements of Sag Harbor Police Officer Michael D. Arkinson reads.

Timberlake appeared in court along with a lawyer and two other individuals on Tuesday, according to People. His next court date is a virtual appearance in Sag Harbor Village Justice Court scheduled for July 26, the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office said, declining further comment.

Timberlake’s lawyer, Ed Burke, told Us Weekly, “The charge was a single count because he refused the breath test. Mr. Timberlake was also charged with two other court citations, running a stop sign and not traveling in the correct traffic lane.” A rep for Timberlake did not immediately return Rolling Stone’s request for comment.

Timberlake is in the middle of a lengthy North American tour in support of his latest album, Everything I Thought It Was. The musician played his most recent show in Miami on June 15, and he’s currently scheduled to resume the trek this Friday, June 21, in Chicago. The run will continue through the fall, wrapping on Dec. 16 in Indianapolis.

Everything I Thought It Was, which was released back in March, marks Timberlake’s sixth studio album and first since 2018’s Man of the Woods. The album notably features a new song with ‘NSync, “Paradise,” marking the boy band’s second recent single, following “Better Place,” from Trolls Band Together. The songs mark ‘NSync’s first new music in more than two decades.

‘NSync previously reunited at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards, marking their first time together in public since earning a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2018. They hadn’t performed live together since 2013, when Timberlake received the VMA’s Video Vanguard Award; that changed this past March when Chris Kirkpatrick, Lance Bass, Joey Fatone, and J.C. Chasez joined Timberlake onstage for a special Los Angeles show to perform “Paradise.”
