Kang Tae-oh and Kim Se-jeong Join Forces in ‘The Moon Flows in This River’
A historical fantasy romance where the lead characters mysteriously swap bodies, triggering a roller coaster ride
Kang Tae-oh and Kim Se-jeong have been cast as leads in this new K-drama, The Moon Flows in This River. The announcement has sparked excitement among fans and K-drama lovers eager to witness the chemistry and dynamic between the two talented Korean actors.
The Moon Flows in This River returns Kang Tae-oh to the drama world following his mandatory military service. His last role was in the 2022 legal drama Extraordinary Attorney Woo, co-starring Park Eun-bin. The show was a staggering success, becoming one of the biggest hits of 2022 and reportedly one of the highest-rated K-dramas in the history of Korean television.
For Kim Se-jeong, the Business Proposal actor (2022), The Moon Flows in This River comes hot on the heels of her starring role in the romance drama, Brewing Love (2024), alongside Lee Jong-won, where she has Chae Young-ju, an ex-soldier who becomes a top saleswoman for a liquor company.
With Jo Seung-hee as its screenwriter and Lee Dong-hyeon as its director, The Moon Flows in This River takes us back to ancient times and is one that weaves romance with fantasy through an intriguing case of soul-swapping that sets off a roller-coaster ride of events—if anything with unexpected twists and emotionally charged moments.
The narrative unfolds around a man weighed down by overwhelming grief, a burden that has taken root in his soul after a tragic incident that has shattered his existence. In contrast, there’s a woman living life as a merchant, her days filled with trade and transactions, but the trouble is that she’s haunted by a fog of amnesia, leaving her with no recollections of her past. The scenario suddenly changes when their lives intertwine serendipitously, which triggers a series of events they couldn’t have imagined, pulling them into a journey that will change their lives forever.
Kang Tae-oh plays Lee Gang, Joseon’s crown prince, who has lost his wife due to, I presume, plotting and is driven to seek revenge. He’s been planning things for quite a while, and when things get started, Park Dal-yi (Kim Se-jeong) emerges in front of him. Lee Gang finds himself taken aback by how similar she looks to his late wife! This unnatural occurrence intensifies when the two individuals inexplicably swap bodies.
The Moon Flows in The River is slated for release this year and adds to the list of K-dramas to look forward to in 2025. Kang and Kim’s fresh pairing in a fantasy setting raises expectations for it and surely hints at an intense love story.
Kang Tae-oh, 30, was a member of 5urprise, the first K-pop group featuring five Korean actors. He gained international fame for his role in Extraordinary Attorney Woo. Kim Se-jeong, 28, a former member of the girl groups I.O.I, Gugudan, and Gugudan SeMiNa, is now a solo artist and actor, notable for School 2017 (2017), The Uncanny Counter (2020–2023), Business Proposal (2022), and Brewing Love (2024).
