Kanye West was sentenced to two years probation stemming from a fight between the rapper and paparazzi photographer Daniel Ramos in 2013, according to TMZ.
The rapper originally pleaded not guilty to charges of misdemeanor battery and attempted grand theft, but pleaded no contest to misdemeanor battery charge. The attempted grand theft charge has been dismissed.
In exchange for the plea, West must also undergo 250 hours of community service and 30 days of anger management. Should the rapper stay out of legal trouble for the next two years, the conviction will be expunged from his record.
In July 2013, West was being photograped by numerous photographers at LAX, when he addressed Ramos. “What you’re trying to do is get me in trouble, so I step out and have to pay you like $250,000,” the rapper said, before running toward Ramos and attempting to grab his camera. While the L.A. County district attorney’s office decided not to file felony charges against West, the case was referred to the city attorney, who subsequently filed misdemeanor charges against the rapper. Had he been convicted of each of the misdemeanors, West may have spent up to six months in prison.
Back in 2008, West was involved in a similar confrontation with a photographer at LAX. The rapper smashed his camera and was subsequently arrested on charges of felony vandalism. He was later charged with battery and grand theft. All three charges were thrown out, however, and West was ordered to complete 50 hours of community service.
