Ali Merchant to Join Karan Aujla’s Mumbai Show As Opening Act
The actor and DJ will perform on Dec. 22, supporting the Punjabi star on his It Was All A Dream Tour
Actor and DJ-producer Ali Merchant has been announced as opening act for Punjabi-Canadian star Karan Aujla’s Mumbai show on Dec. 22, 2024, performing as part of the latter’s It Was All A Dream India Tour.
Merchant says he was approached by Aujla’s India tour organizers Team Innovation and BMT Agency. “. In the past, I have opened for many artists like DJ Snake, Diljit Dosanjh, and have headlined shows produced by the same organizers. They felt I was a good fit for this tour, and that’s how it happened,” he adds.
Merchant, who has been in T.V. shows as well as reality shows like Bigg Boss, has been releasing remixes and performed as a DJ for years now. In 2018, he released his remix album Tabaahi and followed it up with an album of mashups called Kadak in 2019.
When he got the call, Merchant describes being “overwhelmed with excitement and gratitude.” He adds, “It felt surreal to be part of such a massive event, especially alongside someone like Karan Aujla. It’s a huge moment for me as an artist, and I’m honored to be part of this tour […] I can’t wait to bring my energy to the crowd and vibe with everyone.”
The DJ-producer and actor has previously opened for artists like Armaan Malik, Badshah, Guru Randhawa, Lucky Ali and more. Merchant was also behind the decks for actors Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif’s Dabangg Tour in 2019 in Dubai.
In addition to the shows, Merchant has launched his alter ego Ila under his label All About Afro. A press release adds that the actor-DJ revealed through this new venture, he wants to take the essence of Indian classical and folk music to the global level.
