Karan Kanchan Drops New Trap Rager ‘Daruma Dub’

The Mumbai beatsmith and producer for rap artists like DIVINE and Naezy returns with a headbang-friendly tune

Published by

On his first solo release this year, producer Karan Kanchan sticks to his signature Japanese trap banger style on “Daruma Dub.” With a mystique heavy, cinematic lead synth over steadily built beats, Kanchan lines things up for a dominating drop, bringing in loud and brash swishes of sub-bass.

“Daruma Dub” is accompanied by a flashy animated music video (by visual artist Rugved Pawar aka NoizX) centered around the Japanese daruma doll. In a note, Kanchan explains the significance of the “ancient” figurines, saying, “These dolls are usually kept in a place to remind the owner to never give up, and the left eye signifies focusing until you achieve your goal while the owner paints the right eye after that goal is fulfilled.”

The track arrives about eight months after the Mumbai-based producer’s last release, “Black Belt.” In between, of course, Kanchan has had plenty of busy times, producing tracks for hip-hop heavyweights such as DIVINE and Naezy, plus touring as the DJ for the latter artist.

Last month, Kanchan foresaw the long days ahead for the music industry owing to the coronavirus pandemic. As India began prepping to enforce a total lockdown, Kanchan released Sounds of Bedroom Producers Vol. 1 on March 20th as a free download. A sample bank to help producers holed up in their homes to get the creative juices flowing, there’s over 800 samples created by everyone from jazz-fusion artist Aditi Ramesh to hip-hop/electronic and trap-twerk artist Su Real, producer-DJ Sickflip, desi bass artist Paranox, hip-hop ace producer Sez On the Beat, Kolkata’s singer-producer Plastic Parvati and more.

Put together within three days and neatly segregated into folders, Kanchan says, “This sample bank will allow you to tap into the sound pallet of multi genre artists from India for free of cost. This will also allow people who want to get started with music production get a head start.” In a win-win situation, the download is unlocked and also automatically follows all featured artists on Spotify.
