The Australian progressive rock band will perform in Delhi NCR, Kolkata, Mumbai and Bengaluru as part of their ongoing Tri Continental Drift Tour
Australian prog rock favorites Karnivool return to India for their fifth visit this June, with a four-city run of shows between June 5th and June 9th.
As part of their Tri Continental Drift Tour’s India leg put together by live music company and ticketing platform Skillbox (as part of their LiveBox series) and Fidelity Corporation, Karnivool will perform in Delhi NCR on June 5th, followed by shows in Kolkata on June 7th, in Mumbai on June 8th and in Bengaluru on June 9th. Tickets are on sale now.
Karnivool – who began building a following in India right from their debut album Themata in 2005 – last performed in India in late 2019, headlining Bacardi NH7 Weekender’s Meghalaya edition. Previously, on the back of releasing their 2010 album Sound Awake, Karnivool played at IIT Bombay’s Mood Indigo festival in 2011 and at the Bacardi NH7 Weekender in Pune in 2012. After the release of their 2013 album Asymmetry, the band comprising vocalist Ian Kenny, guitarists Drew Goddard and Mark Hosking, bassist Jon Stockman and drummer Steve Judd returned to India in 2015 to headline IIT Madras’ Rockshow as part of the cultural festival Saarang, plus shows in Delhi NCR and Kolkata.
Skillbox’s president of touring and festivals Amarjeet Singha says about booking Karnivool for an India return, “Karnivool has always been a fan favorite in India when it comes to progressive rock music. We felt the time was right again to get them to India but for an extensive four-city headline tour and not as part of any festival or so, just stand alone shows. And it all aligned as they are on the way to Europe for a run of summer festivals as part of their Tri Continental tour.”
He adds that since the tour takes place in summertime in India, they will most likely announce “large indoor venues” in each city for the shows.
Karnivool will travel to India soon after a slew of Australia shows and it will be followed by an extensive Europe tour throughout June. The Australian band are on the lineup of topline metal and rock festivals such as Download in the U.K, Copenhell in Denmark, Graspop Metal Meeting in Belgium and Hellfest in France, among others.
With the longest gap between albums yet, Karnivool did satiate some fan demands by releasing a single called “All It Takes” in 2021. They also performed it live during their one-off India show in Meghalaya in 2019. The band has often spoken about how they take their time with putting out new music. It’s been just over a decade since the release of Asymmetry, so it might be safe say that with this extensive tour across three continents, we’re likely to hear more new material – first on stage and then from the studio.
Kenny said in an interview with The Music in 2022, “I would love to say there’s a record to come […] We’ve got one sitting there on the shelf; it’s just a matter of actually getting it together and making it tangible.”
