KAVYA Shares Cinematic New Track ‘Affection’

In 2017, New Delhi singer-songwriter Kavya Trehan aka KAVYA – who is also the co-founder of dance-rock band MOSKO – began to explore writing alone. Through that process came tracks such as “Underscore,” “Golden” and “Quin.” Now, the artist is gearing up to release an EP entitled Know Me Better this December. She says, “I feel this EP has grown over the years, bringing new ideas and making space for new influences. These four tracks in the EP are completely different from another because they are a body of systematic chaos.”

The first glimpse to Know Me Better has come in the shape of the just-released cinematic lead single “Affection.” KAVYA’s proficient vocals stand out across the track as she delivers an emotive and robust performance. The singer-songwriter says, “The intention of this song was to keep things up close and personal, laced with samples that best imitate the key lyrics.” She adds, “Eventually, it grew into a track with zero pretence, pure intimacy and a full score on vulnerability.”

According to KAVYA, the theme of the EP deals with having a conversation from an “extremely isolated space.” Due to being stuck at home because of the pandemic, the artist tells us that she began to explore inwardly. “With each track meeting its fruition, I realized that sharing my characteristics was one way of expressing myself, both lyrically and sonically,” she says. KAVYA adds, “I do hope that the world gets to ‘know me better’ as a work in progress and all listeners can start seeing my love for the marriage between the audio and visual medium.”

KAVYA worked with New Delhi producer Anhad Khanna (from electronic duo Anhad + Tanner) on Know Me Better. “I think his versatility and understanding of the importance of each song being characteristically different made me want to explore developing this EP with him,” says the singer-songwriter. To help elevate the songs further, the artist is also planning for intimate listening sessions as well as taking to stage with 3D elements, hyperreality, storytelling and cinematic experiences.

The next single off Know Me Better, “Lay Your Head Down,” drops on November 8th. Ask Kavya what she’s got in store once this release cycle is over? She says, “I have a few international collaborations in the pipelines, travel for creating content across the globe and endless hours working on a larger body of music.”
