Anthony Mackie let slip that Kendrick Lamar is returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In a new interview with Entertainment Tonight, the Captain America: Brave New World star revealed that Lamar wrote a new song for the film.
“Kendrick did the title-song for my movie,” Mackie said, before quipping, “Hope that’s not supposed to be a surprise!” Mackie didn’t share any additional details about the song, though he did have plenty of praise for Lamar, remarking, “I’m so excited man,” before celebrating “the beauty and mastery of his craft.”
It’s unclear when exactly Lamar’s track will be released, but it’s not hard to imagine it arriving alongside the movie this Friday, Feb. 14.
This will be Lamar’s second time contributing music to a Marvel movie, following his 2018 Black Panther soundtrack album. Lamar both curated and contributed several songs to the album, including the two hit singles, “All the Stars” with SZA and “Pray for Me” with the Weeknd.
Lamar’s Brave New World song will also mark his first new solo song of 2025. Last November, the rapper released his sixth studio album, GNX, after dominating much of the year with his smash Drake diss, “Not Like Us.” The song just won five Grammys, including Song and Record of the Year, and was arguably the centerpiece of Lamar’s performance at the Super Bowl halftime show this past weekend.
As for Brave New World, it finds Mackie’s character Sam Wilson taking over the role of Captain America from Steve Rogers (played by Chris Evans in the first three films). The movie also stars Harrison Ford, Giancarlo Esposito, Danny Ramirez, Carl Lumbly, and Tim Blake Nelson.
