‘I’m Human from Today’ draws upon a Gumiho and a star footballer, whose interactions abruptly upend their ideal lives and put them in unexpected situations
I’m Human from Today—a new fantasy romantic comedy K-drama—is on the horizon, with Kim Hye-yoon and Lomon at the heart of its captivating narrative.
Scripted by Park Chan-young and Jo Ah-young while directed by Kim Jung-kwon, the series will air next year.
Featuring a fresh pairing and storyline, the show has begun to draw attention that follows Kim Hye-yoon’s portrayal in Lovely Runner with Byeon Woo-seok and Lomon’s role in Branding in Seongsu with Kim Ji-eun.
I’m Human from Today’s story draws upon a Gumiho (Kim Hye-yoon as Eun-ho) and an ace soccer player (Lomon as Kang Si-yeol). Its juxtaposition of the real and the unreal through a love story that centers on them explores the mysteries of inexplicable and implausible experiences.
It’s an existence of luxury and extravagance for Eun-ho, the Gumiho. She’s a self-absorbed character—preoccupied with her undying attractiveness and youth—which somewhat makes for her strangeness and idiosyncrasies.
Eun-ho has a thing in that she isn’t righteous and doesn’t want to be so in any capacity. She hates being “ordinary,” the thought of living like a common man, and is just, at times though, fond of the conveniences and delights of life among people.
Meanwhile, glory and fame are Si-yeol’s life as a footballer. Being a fan-favorite athlete, he exudes confidence and charisma both on and off the field, which is understandable given his competence and expertise.
What’s wrong with this person, though, is that his sense of self is just as big, yet he constantly frets about losing his innate control and strength. In effect, that anxiety often overwhelms his confidence within.
The presence of the two characters throws their idyllic lives for a loop and presents them with unexpected circumstances, especially difficulties. The most difficult one, I think, is likely an inner issue—feelings that upend the protagonists’ carefully laid plans for a safe and secure existence.
I’m Human from Today, in its fantasy, romance, and plot points, seeks to lay bare the undercurrents of sentiments and existential conditions, or perhaps an existential crisis, through elaborate world-building that takes us into figments of mythology and wonder, while also into the depths of realities and of characters and their personalities.
I’m Human from Today looks into the minefields of human existence and the nuances of love and emotions through a unique love story. The drama is set to premiere on SBS TV, occupying slots every Monday and Tuesday.
