Kim Woo-bin and Bae Suzy Reunite for New Romance Drama

The ‘Uncontrollably Fond’ stars are leading the upcoming fantasy romance drama ‘Genie, Make a Wish,’ releasing this October

Almost nine years since Uncontrollably Fond (2016), the classic K-drama starring Kim Woo-bin and Bae Suzy, the Hallyu stars reunite in the long-awaited upcoming drama Genie, Make a Wish, with Kim Woo-bin playing a genie and Bae Suzy playing a cold woman. As intriguing as it sounds, earlier today, Netflix released the official poster along with a teaser announcing the release date (October 3), fanning the excitement of the K-drama community.

Director Lee Byeong-heon and writer Kim Eun-sook have put together this fantasy romance following the unlikely encounter of two different individuals—Kim Woo-bin’s Genie is a passionate and emotionally charged character, as opposed to Bae Suzy’s Ka-young, a poker-faced woman with seemingly no emotions at all.

Ka-young’s life has been one of precision and control, under the watchful eye of her strict grandmother. But things change when she discovers an ancient lamp and awakens Genie, a free spirit with a millennium of magic to make up for, from his long slumber. Promised three wishes by him, Ka-young’s intrusiveness and tightly controlled routines meet Genie’s infectious energy and charm, sparking mayhem and heartfelt revelations that challenge everything they thought they knew about love.

Genie, Make a Wish heralds Kim Woo-bin’s comeback in a K-drama after his 2023 dystopian series Black Knight. He was last seen in starring roles in the science fiction action film Alienoid: Return to the Future and the action-comedy film Officer Black Belt (2025). As for Bae Suzy, this new show will be part of a series following her appearance in the 2023 romance television series Doona! and the 2024 science fiction romance drama film Wonderland. Suzy has also been offered the lead role in the upcoming period fantasy romance drama Men of the Harem and will star in the romantic fantasy drama Delusion, alongside Kim Seon-ho, as well as in the romantic movie 7 O’Clock Breakfast Meeting for the Heartbroken, co-starring Lee Jin-uk.
