The hip-hop/pop star teams up with rapper Karma and producer UKato to kickstart his project
King leads his next album Monopoly Moves (MM) by showcasing his rap chops on “Goat Shit,” with rapper Karma and producer UKato. The hip-hop/pop artist’s new song comes with a playful music video that also unveils the MM motif and the album’s next single “Still The Same” release date as June 7th, 2024.
Described by the artist as a collaboration with Karma, there’s plenty of hedonism that flows through the track, from talking about dalliances to passing the joint and consolidating their place in desi hip-hop. Signaling King’s “GOAT era,” the video sees him and Karma cruising in a car, with a few behind-the-scenes look at the making of the song in the studio.
King says in a statement, “MM is such a special and exciting album and every song has its own unique vibe. Our first song ‘Goat Shit’ is a cool rap hip-hop song and it was great fun collaborating with Karma. I am confident that the album will strongly resonate with listeners worldwide.” The rapper draws the song to a close by proclaiming that he’s just getting started: “Mai to abhi kuch bola hi nahi/Maine likhi bas do line hi (I haven’t even said anything yet/I’ve written just two lines).”
In our Future of Music cover story interview, King added about the album, “My aim with this album is to unite a variety of artists and enhance their authentic talents. I’m not seeking anything different from anyone; my sole objective is to bring out their skills. This project will stand as a substantial catalog of collaborations in the history of the Indian music industry.”
Monopoly Moves will be released via Warner Music India and follows King’s hugely successful albums including New Life (2023) and Champagne Talk (2022). Most famously, “Maan Meri Jaan” even got an “Afterlife” version featuring American pop artist Nick Jonas, with songwriter Natania Lalwani part of the project as well. Jonas called on King to perform the song on stage at Lollapalooza India in January this year, when The Jonas Brothers were headlining.
While there was also “Bumpa” with Jason Derulo and producer Karan Kanchan out earlier this year, King was also seen out and about on the red carpet at 77th Cannes Film Festival in France.
