The desi hip-hop/pop artist behind hits like “Tu Aake Dekhle” and “Maan Meri Jaan” from his album ‘Champagne Talk’ will play Wireless Middle East festival in March
In November last year, New Delhi-bred artist KING made a dent in Spotify’s Global Top 50 charts, with his song “Maan Meri Jaan” being hailed as the only “non-film” song to garner that many streams to chart at number 5.
With the release of his third album Champagne Talk and songs like “Tu Aake Dekhle,” KING hit the road to perform extensively across India, with tickets in big demand. His recent New Delhi show in December, for example, even had a table package charged at ₹1.5 lakhs for 10 to 12 people. It all points to the massive hitmaker and power that the star holds, performing with a live band and ruling the stage. He says that he and his team have achieved “almost everything” they set out to since the launch of Champagne Talk in October last year. “We are breaking into global charts including Spotify Global and Billboards, and achieving milestones that no Hindi song has ever achieved. So, it’s an amazing feeling and we saw the journey of ‘Maan Meri Jaan,’ how this song traveled not just in India but globally,” he says.
He refers to how the song had a wild response when DJ Chetas performed it overseas recently. Soon enough, KING is going to be hitting those international stages on a regular basis, starting with Wireless Middle East in Abu Dhabi on March 11th. The Middle East edition of the U.K. festival will see KING on the same lineup as American hip-hop heavyweights Travis Scott and Lil Uzi Vert, plus Mumbai rap star DIVINE and Pakistani duo Young Stunners. KING says, “It makes me excited as well as proud that I’ll represent my country on such a big platform along with some greatest artists in the world.”
It’s going be a “standard KING experience” brought to the stage in Abu Dhabi, with the artist promising a mix of his biggest hits and “hardcore tracks” as well. “It’s the classic King set and I have curated this set specially for my people for my fans because they can relate to it,” he adds. Understandably, he’s hyped to see the likes of Travis Scott. “I feel proud of my brothers Young Stunners from Pakistan. It’s amazing to see that now SEA (South East Asia) is also represented there. I promise I’ll make India proud for sure,” KING adds.
More international shows are in the works, according to KING and the North American market is one they’ve also set their sights on, among other territories. The artist said in a statement, “I had a great 2022 but I’m built different for 2023. It is going to be our year, watch us rule the global charts now.”
