When singer-songwriter Amal Jose and guitarist Vishnu Das met in 2018, they decided to experiment with various sonic elements and formed their duo Benhurmusic. With a couple of singles released earlier this year, the pair are now out with their latest offering, the emotional “By the River.”
Jose penned the new track during the lockdown and sings about realistic expectations in relationships. Das’ delicate acoustic guitar work blending in with ambient soundscapes as well as Jose’s deep and dramatic vocals make the song quite a nostalgic listen. “We use harmonies and the instrumentation to portray a sense of beauty,” says the vocalist.
“By the River” was recorded by sound engineer Rahul Narayanan at Kerala-based Vivek Thomas’ studio. “They have the best facility and a kick-ass engineer,” says Jose. The vocalist produced the track himself while Argentina-based Pato Podesta mixed and mastered it.
Benhurmusic have used the lockdown to work on more material and are planning on putting out new music in the coming months. “We’ll be exploring themes like the human condition, some philosophical questions that as a songwriter I struggle with and electronic and acoustic sounds,” says Jose.
