Watch Pop Artist Koustuv Ghosh Get Out of a Toxic Relationship in ‘Tere Saath’ Video

On his first Hindi release, the Mumbai singer-producer and actor also turns director

When Koustuv Ghosh was less than a year old, his mother sent him for a modeling project, which gave a whole new meaning to starting young in the creative arts. It led to him becoming an actor, singer and voiceover artist over the next two decades. At 25, Ghosh is also a music producer, VFX ace and filmmaker.

He channels all of his creative energy into his work, as heard and seen in his latest release “Tere Saath,” a pop-inflected breakup song that is also Ghosh’s first Hindi track. He credits his mother as being one who ensured he “gave proper time” to balancing all things creative. It helped him realize that music was his favorite mode of expression. He adds, “My music production value is always high cause I love to entertain people. No matter how much I am spending on my video — and sometimes not making anything in return – even then I make sure the audience can get something fresh and new to watch.”

Following a few stints singing as a child in films like Bhoothnath and Ramaa – The Saviour (he also acted in the latter), Ghosh launched his pop career last year with playful hits such as “Playing Games” and “Mad.” Served up with slick music videos, “Tere Saath” pushes forward in the same direction, taking root in a hip-hop beat that bounces off guitar melodies. He adds, “It was really hinting towards a ‘you can’t mess with me’ type of a song.” The lyrics — co-written with Arritra Nayak — sprung out a breakup and what Ghosh describes as a toxic relationship. Drawing a bit from Justin Bieber as well as Chris Brown, Ghosh believes “Tere Saath” offers a style that isn’t heard in the Hindi music space.

In the video directed by Ghosh, he and a female protagonist (portrayed by Additi Singh) square off, with her being shown as the source of toxic traits. Ghosh is plotting more grandiose releases as well but wants “Tere Saath” to reach as many as possible. “If this song [is] a hit, people have no idea what’s In store for them. I will be ending this year with two banging singles — one Hindi and one English,” he says.
