Kranti Art Theory to Shut Down After 5 Years

The music agency’s final run of shows will feature German DJ-producer $ombi across multiple Indian cities this month

Published by

In 2018, Mumbai-bred promoter Romario Rodrigues began his music agency Kranti Art Theory (KAT). In the five years since, KAT has worked with multiple artists, brands and festivals. Rodrigues says, “The journey has been nothing short of a dream and we’ve built relationships that will last a lifetime. The most satisfying part of this would be when artists come back and tell us how our efforts have benefitted them in various ways.”

As KAT celebrates its five-year anniversary this month, the agency is also closing its doors. The reason is that Rodrigues plans to shift his attention towards Optikal Asylum, an IP that was created by KAT and has gone on to become a successful concept around India. “Our aim is to focus on creating a more stable environment and platform for artists to fearlessly pursue their art. For this we need to present our undivided attention towards achieving this goal,” says Rodrigues.

He adds, “Musically speaking, we have realized that it isn’t enough to just push Indian artists on lineups with international names.” Rodrigues’ goal is to help elevate the underground sounds of Indian producers to a more global audience. That has also led to the formation of the record label Always Make Noise And Party (AMNAP Records).

Although KAT is closing down, they aren’t going away without a bang. For their fifth anniversary, KAT has brought down German DJ-producer $ombi this month for shows in Goa, New Delhi, Bengaluru and Mumbai. Ask Rodrigues what attendees can expect from the gigs and he says, “Apart from $ombi, these run of shows will showcase some of the brightest upcoming names from the Indian subcontinent across music and art.”

Rodrigues informs us that once KAT has officially shut, Optikal Asylum will turn into an e-commerce store for visual art and merch. There are also newer formats for shows he’s planning on experimenting with and will also be releasing music too under AMNAP Records soon by various Indian producers. He says, “The label will also throw its own parties and tours.”

$ombi Tour Dates with Kranti Art Theory:

April 5th – House of Chapora, Goa

April 12th – Auro Kitchen & Bar, New Delhi

April 14th – Indiranagar Social, Bengaluru

April 16th – Veranda Underground, Mumbai
