Indian Ocean, Tetseo Sisters, Joi Barua and More are Headed to Ladakh International Music Festival 2022
To be held at the Sonam Wangchuk Stadium in Leh between April 30th and May 4th, the event will also have The Yellow Diary, prog act Parashara and other local artists perform
Indian rock, fusion and folk artists will head to Leh for the inaugural edition of the Ladakh International Music Festival from April 30th to May 4th. The festival will be held at the Sonam Wangchuk Stadium.
The lineup announced so far includes New Delhi fusion/rock veterans Indian Ocean, Nagaland folk act Tetseo Sisters, Assamese singer-composer Joi Barua and his band, Mumbai act The Yellow Diary and New Delhi prog act Parashara. Two DJs have been confirmed so far – New Delhi’s DJ Ali Burrni, and saxophonist and electronic artist Anna Radko. In addition to the headlining performances, six rock bands from Ladakh will take part in a competition, with the prizes yet to be announced. Ladakhi artists like Faisal Ashoor, Dashugs and Rolyangs are also slated to represent the local music circuit.
The first leg of the festival runs from April 30th to May 2nd. On May 4th, the second leg will see a tribute by artists including Barua to the martyrs of Galwan and the Indian Army’s battle at one of the world’s highest war memorials, Rezang La. Performing at over 16,000 ft above sea level, Barua will also launch the Rezang La Anthem, which is composed by the artist and his band. Bollywood actors such as Richa Chadha and Darshan Kumar are expected as guests.
Barua, who is program director at Ladakh International Music Festival, says in a statement, “I am so honored to bring this festival and my music to the sacred land of Ladakh. I am aware of its special history in the context of Rezang La. This is our tribute to the spirit of Ladakh and the Indian Army. This festival will be proud to showcase the rich musical talent of Ladakh to the rest of the world. As [it’s] a first-time initiative, I am so excited to see what surprises are in store.”
