Lakmé Fashion Week Announces 2024 Edition Dates

The event will take place at the Jio World Convention Centre

Lakmé, Reliance Brands Ltd., and the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) are set to host their upcoming edition of Lakmé Fashion Week in Mumbai from March 13th to 17th, 2024.

Lakmé Fashion Week started in 1999, beginning the millennia as India’s most prestigious fashion week in the country. More than two decades later, it has cemented its reputation with a bi-annual schedule. Its summer resort show takes place in March in Mumbai, while the winter festival show takes place in October in Delhi.

In the past, Lakmé Fashion Week has proved instrumental in crafting the Indian fashion space, responsible for the flourishing of now-household names like Sabyasachi.

The brand, founded by haute couture designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee, presented his collection “Kora” at Lakmé Fashion Week 2003, and it displayed unbleached and hand-woven fabrics with Kantha and other hand embroidery.

The FDCI is a non-profit organization that was founded on the premise of promoting, nurturing, and representing the best fashion and design talent in the country. It maintains that its prime objective is to propagate the business of fashion. It sheds light on art like handloom, understanding that India is a country whose heritage is soaked in the flavors of indigenous crafts.

Keeping up with the times, the shows promise to stress on inclusivity and diversity. Recent times have also guided brands to place emphasis on the sustainability of their creations.

In 2022, RISE Worldwide, in collaboration with the British Council India, organized a riveting conversation at Lakmé Fashion Week highlighting the impact of Fashion on Climate change, and the role of women as leaders, activists, and victims that are part of the fashion & craft ecosystem. This power-packed panel discussion brought together some of the strongest voices in fashion including veteran designer Anita Dongre, Priya Krishnamoorthy, Founder 200 Million Artisans & Sustainability advocate Aditi Mayer, and was moderated by Supriya David, Editor in Chief AJIO Luxe.

In the same year, RISE Worldwide launched a first-of-its-kind space to showcase Innovations in the Sustainable fashion value chain. The Impact Hub is a curated art gallery-inspired space that illustrated the problems of the fashion industry, putting a spotlight on innovative solutions, making it aesthetic and interactive while also keeping it informative. The exhibit had 6 enterprises rooted strongly within the ideals of sustainability, revolutionizing the fashion industry across recycling, business innovation, packaging, crafts and textile innovation.
