The hit comedy will wrap next year after its 12th season, allowing David to finally shed his misanthropic "persona"

Larry David will finally bring Curb Your Enthusiasm to a close — and “shed this ‘Larry David persona’” — after its 12th season airs next year on HBO.
The 10-episode final season will premiere Feb. 4, with new episodes airing weekly up to the schedule April 7 series finale. In a statement, David joked about dropping the “Larry David” persona and finally becoming “the person God intended me to be — the thoughtful, kind, caring, considerate human being I was until I got derailed by portraying this malignant character.”
He continued: “And so ‘Larry David,’ I bid you farewell. Your misanthropy will not be missed. And for those of you who would like to get in touch with me, you can reach me at Doctors Without Borders.”
The core cast for Curb’s final season will feature all the usual longstanding players, plus some more recent additions: Jeff Garlin, Susie Essman, Cheryl Hines, J.B. Smoove, Richard Lewis, Ted Danson, Vince Vaughn, and Tracey Ullman.
Curb Your Enthusiasm premiered all the way back in 2000, spun-off from David’s 1999 HBO comedy special, Larry David: Curb Your Enthusiasm. The show earned wide acclaim for its pointed brand of delightfully discomforting comedy, paired with a bare-bones budget, practically cinéma-vérité style. The show’s first eight seasons aired at a steady clip, but after Season Eight wrapped in 2011, Curb went on a six year hiatus, not returning for Season Nine until 2017. Over the course of its run, Curb earned a whopping 47 Emmy nominations, though so far it’s just won twice.
As for what David plans to do post-Curb, his old collaborator Jerry Seinfeld recently teased something related to the infamous/famous Seinfeld finale from 25 years ago. Asked about the episode at a stand-up show, Seinfeld said he had “a little secret,” saying, “Something is going to happen that has to do with that ending. It hasn’t happened yet. Just what you are thinking about, Larry [David] and I have also been thinking about. So, you’ll see.”
