Mumbai indie band’s latest single draws from lifelong bonds shared by penguins and finding the one
Inspired by love blossoming in their own lives, Mumbai pop-rock band Last Minute India sing their hearts out on the summery “Bas Mere Hi Ho.”
The band’s songwriter and bassist Subodh Gupta says the reason they’ve released “love-based songs” in the recent past – “Bas Mere Hi Ho” follows “Jaane Anjaane” from last year – is because he met a woman he knew was “the one.” He adds, “She’s the one who made me realize what love is.”
Celebrating everlasting love, guitarist and co-founder Bhumit Gor says the sonic direction of “Bas Mere Hi Ho” became “dancing and groovy” to match the “simple, sweet” nature of the lyrics. He adds, “We also tried to make it a little more funky by adding a saxophone layer and things like that.”
In the music video shot and edited by filmmaker Aditya Naik, we get a behind-the-scenes look at recent Last Minute India gigs, interspersed with shots of the five members performing across town, including by the beach.
To coincide with the release of the song, Last Minute India played at Mumbai venue The Stables last month. Vocalist Purusharth Jain says it was the first time that the band had a launch party for a single release. “We also performed a variety of new song covers live, which is something we don’t typically do. Despite a few mistakes, the vibe was fantastic, and the audience really enjoyed it. A lot of people showed up and it was a lot of fun,” he adds. While covers remain a good way to draw in the crowd, Jain says they had “90 percent” of the crowd singing their own songs, including “Bas Mere Hi Ho.” “That was just heartwarming,” he adds.
Bassist Gupta adds that they have a lot more coming up through the year, including collaboration projects. He says, “Moreover, we’re reviving Last Minute India’s true soundscape, quite opposite from ‘Bas Mere Hi Ho,’ a little rock and heartbreak.”
