Hear Last Minute India’s Scorching New Heartbreak Track ‘Yaadein’

The Mumbai Hindi rockers are also plotting a music video and more tunes for 2022

For their fifth single as a band, Mumbai-based rock outfit Last Minute India went back to “Yaadein,” the very first song they had written together, in 2013. Songwriter and bassist Subodh Gupta says, “We were all in college at the time, and we won over 50 competitions and fests thanks to this song! So, even before we officially released ‘Yaadein,’ there was quite a bit of hype about it.”

The follow-up to their 2021 single “Rehnuma,” Last Minute India channel their signature arena-rock energies into “Yaadein,” a song about first love and the memories attached to it. Melancholy is the major mood on “Yaadein,” but that adds to its emotional charge, led by vocalist Abdul Shaikh, guitarists Austin Furtado and Bhumit Gor, drummer Yash Khona and Gupta on bass.

Khona calls “Yaadein” a very special song, given its history. They have no qualms about admitting that they took their own “sweet time” to arrive at the final version of the track. The drummer adds, “Eventually, we decided to record the song at Apostrophe Studios in Nashik, which was an amazing experience in itself.” By then, the track was also ready to get a major push from Spotify India, who picked Last Minute India as their RADAR India artist for April. “Everything we were working on led us to this moment, and we knew it’s the perfect time to release the song,” Khona shares.

“Yaadein,” along with singles like “Aao Na” in 2020 and “Kaagaz Ki Naav” in 2021, is part of the band’s upcoming album, also called Kaagaz Ki Naav. Gor says that they have made the most of their online presence in the years that the pandemic lessened the chances of gigging around the country. “Despite the fact that we barely played any gigs last year due to the lockdown, we received an overwhelming response and support online. It has kept us on our toes and inspired us to accomplish even more this year. We already have tracks recorded and ready for release, new songs in the works, and a pan-India tour that will be announced very soon,” the guitarist adds.

Those plans also include a music video for “Yaadein,” which will appropriately build on its tumultuous and emotional intensity. Furtado adds, “Our 2022 release plan already has two new songs on the list.”
