Leah Kate Channels Her Inner ‘Gone Girl’ in New Video For ‘Super Over’

The track follows a string of successful releases from the American artist

When we catch up with American singer-songwriter/pop artist Leah Kate over Zoom, she’s just finished making her debut television appearance on Good Day New York. Reliving the experience, she says, “It was really cool. It was super fun, and it was crazy. I had a blast.” Kate performed her latest release on the show, the angsty “Super Over.”

The last time we spoke to Kate was in 2021 when she released her seven-track EP What Just Happened? Although the singer was already blowing up at the time, in the past two years her stock has risen even further. With her follow-up EP, 2022’s eight-track Alive and Unwell which includes the smash hit “10 Things I Hate About You,” Kate saw tremendous success that led her to tour with American singer Madison Beer as well as head out on tours of her own across the U.S., U.K., Europe and Australia. “The last two years was touring and touring,” she says.

According to Kate, “Super Over” is a start of a new era for her. The artist says, “I wrote ‘Super Over’ because I was actually very heartbroken over someone, and I needed an anthem for myself. I wrote it as my official, ‘I’m cutting you off forever anthem.’ I was really hurt and just needed a song to help me move on.” The track itself includes a gritty beat and falls in between pop music and punk rock as distorted guitars ring out during the choruses while the verses are quieter and more angelic. Kate on her part delivers unabashed lyrics while her infectious and catchy melodies shine throughout the song.

The music video accompanying “Super Over” sees Kate perform the track in a house with choreographed dancing and showcases her unapologetic self. She says, “I always had a very big vision for this video. I really wanted a video that I felt could break the internet so I wanted to go all out.” The singer adds, “It kind of takes after the [2014 American psychological thriller] Gone Girl plot, which was really fun.”

In 2021, Kate explained that she overcame insecurities she had at the time regarding releasing her music. Ask her how she feels these days? She says, “I feel like I grow in this industry every day. Every day is a new emotional roller coaster and I’m always learning something.” Currently, Kate is putting together her full-length debut album and is also plotting a headline tour in the near future. On the upcoming record, she says, “I’ve been spending every day perfecting the track list and just putting it all together and it’s been crazy, but really, really fun and exciting.” Kate adds, “I’ve been working on this for two years, so finally seeing it come together, doing the visuals, just bringing it to life is super fun.”
