Lisa Brings the Fire With ‘New Woman’ and ‘Rockstar’ Performances at 2024 VMAs

The Blackpink member was nominated for four awards for her solo single, “Rockstar"

Blackpink’s Lisa made her solo debut at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards, performing two of her recent tracks, “New Woman” and “Rockstar.”

Paris Hilton introduced the performance, with Lisa opening the set by spitting the lyrics of “New Woman” in a red leather two-piece set. After performing a heated chair dance routine with her dancers, the singer and rapper brought her choreography to the middle of the catwalk, where she performed on a moving platform.

Transitioning into “Rockstar,” Lisa delivered the fiery single with flames lining the stage and more than a dozen dancers surrounding her. “I’m a rockstar, I’m a rockstar,” she boasts on the record. “It’s not hype, hype, baby, make you rock-hard.”

Lisa previously performed at the VMAs back in 2022 with Blackpink when the K-pop stars made their award show debut with a rendition of “Pink Venom.” That same year, Lisa made history as the first solo K-pop star to win a Moon Person — Best K-Pop for “Lalisa” — while Blackpink took home their second VMA prize, Best Metaverse Performance for Blackpink: The Virtual. The group had previously won Song of the Summer in 2020 for “How You Like That,” while in 2023, they took home Best Group and Best Choreography for “Pink Venom.”

Along with her performance this year, Lisa was nominated for four awards for her solo single, “Rockstar,” including Best Art Direction, Choreography, Editing, and K-Pop.

Lisa made her solo debut in 2021 with “Lalisa” and her accompanying single, “Money.” In the three years since then, she’s largely focused on work with Blackpink as they recorded, released, and toured in support of their 2022 album Born Pink. She launched this new era of her solo career back in June with the release of “Rockstar” and recently followed it up with her Rosalía collaboration“New Woman.”

Lisa will deliver her first solo performance at a music festival later this month when she takes the stage at Global Citizen 2024 in New York City on Sept. 28. The lineup also features Post Malone, Jelly Roll, Doja Cat, and Rauw Alejandro.

Along with all her musical endeavors, Lisa has also been busy filming her acting debut in Season Three of The White Lotus. No details about her character have emerged yet, nor has a premiere date been revealed for the hit series.

“I’m super excited and nervous, because it’s my first acting project,” Lisa recently told Elle. “So I was happy for a second, and then I was like, ‘Oh, wait, wait, how am I going to deliver this?’”
