The first song off the singer's album will be released later this month
Bombay-based singer-songwriter Lisa Mishra recently took to Instagram to announce her debut solo album.
The vocalist, who spent the majority of 2023 collaborating on several projects, including the warm romantic ditty “Aa Mil” with Zaeden and a feature on Prateek Kuhad’s single “Mere Sang,” is ready to take a stride forward in a more “Lisa Mishra-centric” direction with this announcement.
The Odisha-born and Chicago-raised singer first started gaining attention for her singing talent on YouTube, where she would frequently upload cover versions of her favorite songs.
She was soon approached to lend her vocals on Chance the Rapper’s track “All We Got” from his Grammy-winning album Coloring Book. This was only the beginning for Mishra; it was not long before she made her Bollywood debut, shooting to fame in the Bollywood circuit with the reprise version of “Tareefan” from the movie Veere Di Wedding.
When asked what listeners can expect from this project, Mishra said that “people can expect a lot of international production influences, especially the likes of SZA and Kehlani. I also have familiar touch points for fans of my earlier guitar-led songs. But it is a cohesive storytelling album about the female emotional experience which covers love, loneliness, loss, anger, and redemption.”
She further added, “[the album] features largely up-and-coming artists, so it is decidedly focused on my artistry and to familiarize the audience with my new sound.”
The album, which looks like it will be granted a release date within the first half of 2024, will mark Mishra’s first full-length solo album.
Her announcement video also includes appearances from Bombay-based producers Karan Kanchan and Rizzy Rico, along with a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it appearance from Bangalore-based singer and rapper Ranjani Ramados, aka RANJ.
The singer is set to release the first single off the album on January 23.
