Most metalheads are never genre purists. While that doesn’t mean every other metalhead is a closet pop fan, but that they are more open to music that’s not all blast beats and growls. Beyond Manic are a case in point. The Bengaluru industrial/electro rock act, who have released their second single “Sadma,” proudly claim they are “former metalheads who are experimenting and exploring different ways to make music” on their Facebook page. Comprising producer Madhav Ayachit [from thrash metal band Theorized], vocalist Prasad Bhat [from prog metal band Extinct Reflections] and Bengaluru guitarist Deepankar Bajpeyi, the three-piece band started out in December last year, after an impromptu jam between Bhat and Bajpeyi. They decided to track a song at Ayachit’s home studio in Bengaluru and the producer wanted in.

Beyond Manic recalls dark rock, with elements of electronica and industrial rock, very much in the space of American industrial act Nine Inch Nails. Ayachit says the most important part is to perfect the songs in terms of production and composition, something that comes across on “Sadma” and their first single “Zee Horror Show,” which released in January. Vocalist Bhat says there’s a lot more material being composed. “We just need to put it together. The songs are taking a long time to be produced and finished, maybe because we are looking at making every track perfect. Sadma took us almost three months including the production.” For now, Beyond Manic will remain a studio-only project, with members concentrating on songwriting and recording tracks. Says Bhat, “We will surely think about going live once we get tired of writing music.”
