Kamal Singh tells us that Christmas brings him down. “It reminds me of growing up in school in Ooty and caroling,” says Singh, “It gets cold and I start feeling sad and stuff.” So instead of cheery carols, Singh marks the festival of cheer with his own songs of loss and lament including “Christmas on my Tonsils,” and two covers of WHAM’s pop track “Last Christmas” and Blink 182’s “I Won’t Be Home for Christmas.” The new tracks bear Singh’s signature, packed with fuzz and feedback,  and he continues to record using his laptop and a pirated version of Logic Pro. The tracks are his first release after his well-received debut, The Resurrection of the Princess of Woe and her Vampire Hound Posse.

Singh, who moved to Delhi from Bengaluru earlier this year, says that he’s still settling into the new city, which is what’s keeping the next Hoirong album on hold. “It will be a set of nursery rhymes, which I’ll hopefully release in March next year,” says Singh, who is also working on a new album for his mellow acoustic rock project, 3 Sevens. New plans also include gigging with Hoirong. “I’ve been working on that. I’ve met this drummer Akshat [Nauriyal] from [progressive rock band] Another Vertigo Rush and I hooked up with him but have not got time to jam,” adds Singh.
