The Mumbai rock band is back after a four-year hiatus
It had been almost four years since multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Yohan Marshall’s rock band Marshall & the Mischief played a gig. The band has recently ended their dry spell and the Mumbai outfit has just released their debut single, “Awake & Incomplete.” Says Marshall, “This group has just kind of restarted, almost!”
Apart from Marshall, the band comprises vocalist-drummer Azamaan Hoyvoy, bassist Adil Kurwa and guitarist Harshvardhan Gadhvi, all of who have expertly contributed towards their brand-new track. The one thing you’ll notice immediately about the song is the strong rhythm section. Marshall says, “I feel like this is sounding different from my earlier material.”
“Awake & Incomplete” was tracked at the now-defunct Arbit Random Studio in Mumbai and co-produced by Marshall and Mumbai-based Savera Mehta. “He [Mehta] is one of my best friends from school back in Ahmadabad and he is arguably the reason I started playing music,” says Marshall. The song was also mixed by Mehta and mastered by Chris Athens in the U.S.
A music video for “Awake & Incomplete” is also out and the group’s next release is an R&B offering, titled “If You’re Searching.” Says Marshall, “We’re going to release all the singles and then put out an EP.”
