Listen: Nush Lewis’s Tinkling Melodies on ‘Fused’

The Mumbai-based harp player expresses her deepest sentiments on her debut six-track EP

At her performance at Ziro Festival of Music last month, harpist and vocalist Nush Lewis promised a six-track debut release. And in less than a month, the Mumbai musician has kept her word with her EP Fused, which released today (October 20th).

One amongst the handful of harp players in India, Lewis accompanies herself on the 34- string instrument as she brightly croons about some of her innermost thoughts, from drinking tea with a lover from bright orange teacups to finding sanity. Says Lewis, “It [the album] is by far the most personal set of songs that I’ve put out; it’s very close to my heart. In a way it’s one of the ”˜rantiest’ things too, because it’s quite heavy emotion wise.” Fused has been produced by Mumbai musician Ayan De.

Lewis, who has previously collaborated with the likes of acoustic pop act Whirling Kalapas, and singer songwriter Sid Coutto [of pop-rock outfit Tough on Tobacco fame], has been penning songs since 2011, but only started working on Fused since October 2014, after having met and worked with De for her live shows. And although tracks like the crowd favorite “Spilt Milk,” a mashup of Shaa’ir +Func’s “Freeze You” and “My Roots,” and the instrumental “Blue Nails,” didn’t make it to Fused, we’re hoping that the album is just the first of many more tinkering offerings from the harpist.

Stream ”˜Fused’ below.

Fused will be available for download on OKListen and iTunes soon.
